Today I'm excited to be teaming up with four other smart and fashionable bloggers who also happen to be lawyers to bring you some work outfit inspiration!
As a young lawyer I often get asked, "Is law school worth it?", "What can I do with a law degree?", and of course "Is being a lawyer just like Law and Order?". One of the first lessons you learn in law school is that the answer to pretty much everything is "it depends". Lawyers come in all shapes and forms. There are so many different types of law that one can practice in as well as non-traditional routes that utilize law degrees. Seeing all these lady lawyers and their work outfits truly emphasizes the versatility of law. You're going to want to check out Tif, Lee, Nina, and another Brittany.
The blazer is probably the one item of clothing that comes to mind when you think of a lawyer. It's a power piece. Do I wear a blazer everyday to work? Absolutely not. But on days that I go to court, have meetings, or just want to look a little more polished the blazer is my go-to. While I was clerking during law school I learned a very valuable tip from a young lawyer I was working under. She told me to always have a jacket on outside of the office. A jacket is a symbol of power and respect. Unfortunately, as a young (woman) lawyer, far too often I get overlooked as a secretary or other staff member. However, when I wear a jacket or blazer it is much less likely to happen. Obviously, a blazer can be incorporated to almost every work scene, not just law, for a professional and stylish look.
What's your favorite way to wear a blazer?
