5 on Friday

Hooray for the freaking weekend! This week has seemed especially long for me (I say this every week). Here are a few things going on and on my mind!

One. I'm Running (jogging/walking/crawling) a 5k

I mentioned earlier that I was using the Couch to 5k App to train (ha!) for an upcoming 5k. Well, folks it is here. I'm only through week 4 of the 8 week program so it is going to be a struggle. I highly recommend the app though because it is a great way to slowly build yourself up to getting comfortable running. The 5k is called Colors of Courage and I'll be wearing purple to advocate for pancreatic cancer and in memory of my aunt. We have a group of 8 participating so it will be fun if nothing else!

Two. Beauty Swap

Pink Heels Pink Truck
A few months ago I signed up to participate in a Beauty Swap. Basically, we were paired with other bloggers, corresponded back and forth about our beauty preferences, and sent each other a little beauty care package. I swapped with Ashley from Keeping up with Ashley and Cody. It was fun to get to know her and her beauty product style. She was kind enough to send me some great swag.

I love trying out new products and I'm especially pumped for this BB creme. Has anyone tried these products?

Three. Beauty Hits and Misses

Speaking of new beauty products...here are a few that I've bought lately. I had such high hopes for the Living Proof blowout spray but it has not wowed me at all. Maybe it makes my hair a bit smoother but it's nothing to write home about. Thankfully, I just bought the small bottle.

BUT the other two products are some of my new favorites. I am an aspiring lipstick girl. I so badly want to pull off the perfect rich colorful lip but I always end up looking like a fool. The Ulta girl suggested I try the Urban Decay Ultimate Ozone Lip Primer Pencil and I'm so glad I did!

It's a translucent pencil that will match any color and reduce bleeding. I think it's a perfect product for low maintenance lip wear and if you're a newbie like me. My Ulta girl also pointed me in the direction of Two Faced Better than Sex Mascara and dare I say it may live up to its name :)

Four. Reading Machine

Lately, I have been reading nonstop. I think I'm finally starting to realize that I need a break from screen time after work. Even if I am reading my Kindle some it's a nice distraction from TV or a computer screen. If you follow me on Instagram you saw that I picked up some new books last weekend at Half Priced Books. I love going in there and browsing and it's a nice place to get rid of your old books. Have you all read any of these? (yep, those are schnauzer bookends)

Five. The Affair

Per Alanna's suggestion a few weeks ago I had to start watching The Affair. I purchased the first and only season on Amazon and was hooked from the start. I've been limiting myself to one episode at a time to keep it going. It's so good! However, now that it's over I'm left with so many questions. If you've seen it I'd love to discuss. Please fill me in on your theories!

Have a great weekend friends!

  4. I haven't read any of those books but I would agree I think I am on a reading high right now and I am loving it. There is just something about laying in bed and reading before falling asleep that I can't get enough of right now!

  5. Love your comment about being an aspiring lipstick girl!! I'd love to be able to rock it, but I just can't find one that I love/stays on/ isn't streaky looking, orrrr I just don't want to pay the big bucks to get one that is actually worth it:)

  7. I've always been intrigued by that app. Have you noticed its effectiveness? I've never been a runner though and I make myself do it; I'm trying to run longer distances! Happy Friday!

  9. Smart move on buying sample sizes first - I do that with a lot of products and just recently with a spray that left my hair a greasy mess :( Hope you have a great weekend! xo, Biana -BlovedBoston

  10. I am adding both of those products to my next shopping list. The lip primer sounds like something I would totally love!

  11. You will be fine on your 5k! It is actually only like 3.something miles. I had a similar situation where I signed up for a 5k (thinking I would have plenty of time to train but wound up not doing it at all out of laziness) and I survived the race. I definitely didn't come in first but I didn't die either. You will be fine!

  14. haha You totally described how I feel when I attempt lipstick! I'm always like, "don't I look like a clown??" How fun is a beauty swap! That's awesome! And I know nothing about The Affair, BUT I've been rewatching Dawson's Creek this week and just learned that Joshua Jackson aka Pacey Witter aka Charlie Conway is in it so that's exciting! :) Hope you have a great weekend!

  15. Good luck with the 5k gurlie - you've got this! And booo to the Living Proof being a letdown, but at least it was a smaller bottle and not a bigger investment.

    Happy Friday <3

  19. Good luck with your 5k! I hope you don't have to crawl. I love the idea of a beauty product exchange and I'm totally checking out that mascara and lip primer pencil. I'm fairly certain that I read The Shell Seekers, but it would have been years ago and I don't really remember much more than I think I liked it. Perhaps I should go back and read it again!

  21. Hey Brittany! I love the name of your blog - very cool, and very classy. I'm a KY girl too. Nice to meet you, am visiting from Five on Friday. I love the Couch to 5K app. I started it a few weeks ago and only got 5 work outs in before my knees started bothering me... I had to call it quits til they were all better. Back to work out one on Monday! I hope your 5k goes okay! I am looking so forward to my first one... whenever that is. Hope you're having a lovely weekend!

  22. I've worn the Cheekers blush for years and really like it. The pigmentation isn't as good as a more expensive product, but I love that it's almost never broken or crumbled in the pan.

    Have a great weekend!
