Swimsuit Season: Rock the One-Piece

Swimsuit season always comes with mixed feelings. There is excitement about the warm weather, day drinking, and pool parties...then you remember oh sh*t I'm going to have to wear a swimsuit soon....in front of people!

I've got a tummy, a pooch, a beer belly, a gut..whatever term of endearment you would like to call it. Even at my tiniest I still had a little fanny pack hiding under my shirt. I have a short torso and long legs--that's just the way it's going to be.  I will never have a 6 pack.  I'm at a point in my life where crash dieting for spring break, drinking gallons of lemon water, and sustaining on Lean Cuisines (yes, I've done them all) is just not worth it to me. I'd much rather eat the pizza, nachos and drink the margaritas that make my life enjoyable than count every calorie to honestly not see a dramatic difference in my middle area. After 27 years of hating my belly and trying to lose it I've learned to not necessarily accept it, but figure out ways to play up my other features. Insert the ONESIE! Ladies, the one-pieces of today are in a totally different world from the 80's red Baywatch suits and moo-moos you may have in mind. I promise.

I'm so thankful that brands are making cute one piece and tankini options--FINALLY! These days I would much rather rock an awesome one-piece than spend all day uncomfortable in a bikini.

Here are some great options I've found for us girls wanting to camouflage our mid-sections but still have style this summer! All under $100! (click image for details)

Would you rock the Onesie?

  2. Being a mom of two boys I definitely tried to rock the two piece last year after not being able to rock one since I was 19!!! And I didn't feel comfortable in it. This year I definitely plan to get one piece. Even if its a monokini.

  3. I love all of these, especially the last two! I do a tankini because I need two different sizes and a built in bra. Ugh everything with women is so complicated! Great post because I need a new swimsuit now!

  6. I'm loving the last suit. I'm with Lindsay on the tankini's as I need a different size for my top and bottoms which is a bummer.

  7. I just got one from Target to hide my stretched out mom belly, lol. I feel like I need to buy all the one pieces now because it seems like they go out of style as quickly as they come in!

  10. Is bodysuit an option here? Land's End has great bathing suits of all kinds with great shaping fabrics.

My other solution? Vacationing on a beach in a foreign country.

  16. Oh my gosh this is great - late to my life - but great! Once I booked my tickets for NOLA I was on a mad dash to find a one piece because I'll be going with all my toothpick friends and can't be caught dead in a two piece next to them lounging by the pool. I scoured Target and the internet and finally found a fun vintage inspired red one. I love all your picks though. And I'm with you - I'll take the onesie and keep eating my nachos and beer thanks!

  18. SO on trend! I am loving one pieces right now! I got one last year from American Apparel and it is so fierce... Baywatch, but still classy. Love this!

  22. I've always worn tankinis or one pieces, just due to my religious views on modesty. But after having a baby, you can bet I appreciate tummy coverage even more!! These suits are SO cute!
