One. Pinterest Wins

I have had my fair share of flops while trying out Pinterest recipes. Have you searched the #nailedit or googled Pinterest fails? Do it now if you want a good laugh and to waste an hour of your life (worth it). Here are few that got me good.

Anyways, occasionally the Pinterest stars align and something turns out good..really good in these cases. This past weekend I tried out these watermelon salad and potato salad recipes I pinned and was blown away!

I do not like potato salad. Correction, I get violently ill thinking of the yellow mush potato salad that's in a grocery store deli case. But this warm potato salad with mustard vinaigrette was stupid good.
Does anyone else think that watermelon salads are becoming the next kale or quinoa craze? I've seen them everywhere. But it's for good reason because it is delicious. The best way I can describe this recipe is interestingly delicious. The flavors are so unique that it either has to be amazing or disgusting...and it's amazing! I will be making this all summer.

Two. Blacklight Zumba

After taking about a 3 week hiatus from Zumba (out of sheer laziness) I jumped back on the train after seeing a post that the night's class was a "blacklight dance party". It was so fun! A great way to mix up the normal workout. I quickly snapped this pic during a break.

Three. Blogger Love

The Daily Tay is one of my favorite blogs to read and she captured my thoughts perfectly this week with her post on the Duggar scandal. I will just say that they have given me the heebie jeebies from the beginning.

Lately, I have had a serious case of the travel bug. I could spend hours reading Casey's blog Land of Marvels (I certainly have). Check out her posts on the Secrets of Booking Travel Accommodations and the post that has me convinced I need to go to Newport, RI.

I'll go ahead and pat my own back too in case you missed my posts on blackberry yogurt dog treats or my version of Ina Garten's zucchini and cheese tart :)

Four. Charcoal Mask

Anyone else feel the rise in humidity lately? Some days it feels like a sauna out. At the end of the day it's so nice to wash all the makeup off your face. I love using this Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask. I have used Glamglow in the past and I honestly like this mask better, ahem, and it's half the price. Besides feeling squeaky clean after you get to scare your dogs by looking like this...

Five. New Blog Design

I'm so excited to share that (hopefully) by next week this blog space will be sporting a new look. I've been working with the incredibly talented Sarah from Venus Trapped in Mars and giddy about showing you all!

As always I'm linking up today with September FarmLife in LeggingsMeet @ The Barre, and High Five for Friday.

What are you weekend plans?

  1. I need to look into that mask! I have used Glamglow but have avoided buying a new bottle because of the price. Pinterest fails make me laugh so hard! I'm glad I'm not the only one. ;) can't wait to see your new design!

  3. OMG that watermelon salad looks really good! I totally agree with you on the cold potato salad from the grocery stores, eww. Can't wait to see your new design!

  4. You should def try the mask..I've bought it twice. It doesn't dry up as much over time either as I've found Glamglow tends to do.

  5. Oh cool! I didn't know you zumba!

  6. It was really good! The olive oil, mint, and feta kind of diffuses the sweetness of the melon.

  12. I see watermelon salads all the time, you're right. I cannot do it though. I don't like my food to mix. It has to be all sweet or all salty. I can't do things like tangerines or strawberries in my salads either. Yuck.

  13. Blacklight zumba looks sooo fun! That watermelon salad looks delish too :) I've been thinking about trying a mask from Origins, glad to hear you were pleased with yours!

  17. First off, I literally LOLed in the office just seeing those three pictures of Pinterest fails, so that's obviously going to be a great read.
Second, I LOVE The Daily Tay. She makes me LOL every time, and she's just an awesome human.
Third, I've been hearing so much about the Glamglow masks but was not about to splurge, so thank you for sharing a more affordable option!!! Gotta love great masks.
Fourth, black light Zumba sounds like a party. I'm in!
And lastly, can't wait to see the new blog design!!!

  18. I'm completely loving the watermelon/feta salad mix and if it's just a trend, I'll take it. Love the Pinterest fails. I've had some of my own when trying to make cute things out of food for the kids. Usually I just make my kids cry. Daily Tay is a great blog and she said it. He committed a crime, a crime against children. Great picture of you with the face mask--have you ever tried the Look Beauty Masques? They're even cheaper on Amazon and are my absolute favorite.

I like a good warm potato salad, but agree that the grocery store stuff is totally barf. Watermelon and feta? I love them separately, but will have to build up some courage to put them together.

Total aside: do you have "bar exam foods," foods that you ate like crazy while studying that now produce stressful memories and slight revulsion? Watermelon is one for me. I just started eating it again last summer, 2 years after the bar.

I used to be really into masks! I think that I should get back to that.

  38. Pistachios!!! I ate them constantly during bar prep (and why I probably gained 10 lbs that summer lol). I still like them but don't CRAVE them like I did!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Oh great! I love yours so I'm excited!

    ReplyDelete
  40. My pattern usually is I go and get so into it for a few weeks or a month..then I get burned out on it..take a break..then ready for it again haha. It's such a fun workout!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I am so with you on the potato salad! I hate mayo, so it's a given that I will shy away from most potato salads, but I tried a mustard vinaigrette potato salad one time and it was fantastic. It was warm and had wilted greens and bacon pieces with it.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Ohh the Pinterest "wins," I've SO been there! That blacklight zumba sounds pretty neat! I'm always self-conscious in public/group exercise places, but I'd def be down for that kind. Can't wait to see your new blog look!

  43. I love those charcoal masks but they definitely frighten the husband when he doesn't get forewarning ahead of time ;-)

  44. It's a life changer! I was the same way

  47. Ha, the pinterest fails are so me! I'm a terrible cook! I'm doing some baking for baby's upcoming first birthday party and my plans are getting less and less elaborate as time goes on and I realise my limitations. I did a practice bake and although everything looked terrible, at least it tasted good, haha! Hopefully I'll be able to make it look passable on the day!
