I'm mildly obsessed with my Fitbit Flex . I rarely go a day without wearing it, constantly check my steps on the app, and compulsively walk in circles to get in extra steps. I would highly recommend it if you're looking for a motivator that keeps you accountable. Along with a sleep tracker the app also has a feature that lets you track your water intake. This feature has made me acutely aware that I need to step my ounces game up. I struggle majorly with getting my daily dose of H20 because I honestly just rarely get thirty. I will go an entire meal and just drink a few sips of water. We all know how important drinking water is for our overall health, skin, and digestion. It's an even bigger concern for me because I have had kidney stones in the past and if you've ever had one you know that you do not want one again (I hear it's comparable to child birth--so I'm ready).
According to the water calculator (figure out your amount!) I need 99 ounces of water a day. Since my spirit animal is not the camel I'm going to need some help getting to this number everyday.
To liven up my water I like to infuse it with yummy ingredients that are tasty but also have nutritional benefits. Drink immediately after adding the ingredients or let them stew in the fridge for added infusion flavor. Mason jars are perfect because the lids make it handy to store several batches and they're easy to transport. Try out these 3 combos and let me know what you think!
Cucumbers are 96% water so adding it to your water not only provides a refreshing flavor but extra hydration benefits. The mint leaves complement the cucumber nicely and balance out any bitterness.
4 cucumber slices
1-2 sprigs of mint (depending upon taste)
One of my favorite fresh juices is a mix of orange, carrot, and ginger. This water infusion reminds me of that flavor. Ginger is a natural remedy for nausea and indigestion so this water would be perfect for expecting mommas or occasional bloating. The only downfall to this drink is that it does get a bit muddled because of the pulp in the orange..but if you can get over that it's quite tasty!
4 orange slices
1/2 teaspoon of grated ginger (more to taste)
This water is my favorite of the three! It tastes like a subtle strawberry lemonade and the basil adds an interesting complexity..and it's just so pretty :)
3 lemon slices
3-4 halved strawberries
2 basil leaves
The flavor combinations are endless so play around with your water!
